Converting Air Ride suspension

1992 Lincoln Continental
As you may see...even though we specialize in the repair and maintenance of Antique, Classic, and Vintage automobiles, we also on occasion maintain and repair the more "modern" vehicles as well. This is the Lincoln we brought back w/us from the road trip in Brinklow, MD. The owner of this car has had the 'air ride suspension" repaired twice at the dealership and now, after this failure, has decided to eliminate the air-ride all together and go with conventional struts and springs on all fours'.
After ordering up the parts we needed to assemble each unit together...(for those not familiar with these....no....they do not come assembled). For those who are familiar with these style units....you know the most dangerous part comes when compressing the spring down far enough to assemble the units) Many "hair-raising" stories have been told about compressing these springs!! Even with the new technology and spring compression tools available today....it's still a "sketchy" task.

After disconnecting all of the components attached to the original air-ride system, it was out with the old....and in with the new.

The rear suspension was difficult to access. There was approx. 4" of space to maneuver in to release the old suspension and install the new. But.....with patience and time....we were successful!!
Took the car for a test drive and everything performed well and as expected. The customer came to pick up the car Friday and drove it home. We received a call from the owner later that afternoon stating the car performed perfectly and the ride was like having a brand new car!! Thanks!!
Thanks for tuning in.....till next time.....
